PALEMBANG - The protesters who are members of the Anti-Corruption Community Movement have asked the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham, South Sumatra) to process the findings of a prisoner in a corruption case who was on vacation.

The coordinator of the mass demonstration, Rohadi, said that a prisoner referred to with the initials JA, the inactive Regent of Muara Enim Regency, was sentenced by the Palembang District Court to 4.5 years in prison and detained at the Class IA Pakjo Penitentiary in Palembang.

According to him, JA was found out of the detention house to attend his son's wedding reception at the Golden Sriwijaya Building (GSB), Jalan Governor HA Bastari, Jakabaring on Sunday, March 6.

"Therefore, we ask the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights to process and evaluate the performance of Class IA (Pakjo) Karutan (Head of Detention Center) regarding the prisoners who were released," said mass coordinator Rohadi in his speech, Antara, Friday, March 11.

According to him, his party considers that the evaluation must be carried out immediately, because it is suspected that something has been violated so that JA is released from the detention house.

"We are questioning which rules allow permission for a prisoner to leave the detention house, because after we read the rules, we did not find a single article that regulates the matter," said Rohadi.

Head of the General Section of the South Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office Herman Sawiran said the JA issuance had been completed with all documents or documents according to legal rules and procedures.

According to him, JA's release was made after a request was made by the family through the legal counsel concerned directly to the Supreme Court.

"This is because JA has the status of a prisoner of the Supreme Court because he is still filing an appeal there," he said.

Then, he continued, the Supreme Court issued a letter of determination as requested and immediately transferred it to the Public Prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) who handled the JA case.

"So we are not directly involved in the escort, because the status in question is still a deposited prisoner whose file is in the Supreme Court and in principle the release is in accordance with existing procedures," he said.

However, according to Herman, his party appreciates what has been conveyed by the mass of action and considers it a constructive correction.
