JAKARTA - The community has an important role in welcoming the 2024 General Election (Pemilu). Starting from participation to observing changes in the political elite, the community can do something to prevent fraud.

This was conveyed by the Assistant for the Government and Welfare of the Regional Secretariat of the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Central Kalimantan (Kalteng). He reminded the public to be involved in welcoming the 2024 General Election.

"The community has democratic rights, and community participation here is not only on polling day," said Katma, quoted from Antara, Monday, March 7.

Community participation includes participating in supervising and overseeing the various stages of the election so that it runs smoothly so as to produce leaders who can be trusted or trusted.

Apart from that, there are other important things that the public must understand in welcoming the upcoming elections, namely that elections are a pillar of democracy, as well as a method for changing political elites.

According to him, democratic elections have at least five pillars, such as clear regulations, competent participants, smart voters, organizers with integrity, and a neutral bureaucracy. Each pillar supports each other with other pillars.

"Without one pillar, it is impossible to achieve democratic elections, the five must strengthen each other," he stressed.

Then another thing that is of concern in welcoming the election, namely increasing public participation because it has an important role, to control and supervise government policies.

This is to avoid fraudulent actions that are detrimental to society and the government to measure the high or low of the democratic system.

"The political intelligence of the people is not only an object of democracy, but is designated as a critical subject," he explained.

Katma reminded the community that they must unite to build Central Kalimantan so that it is more advanced and independent, both in terms of infrastructure development and quality human resources.

He conveyed a special message from the Governor of Central Kalimantan, Sugianto Sabran, that in carrying out the program, the government cannot run alone and needs the support of all parties, especially the community as regional development partners.

"Shoulder to shoulder with the regional government we work for a common goal, creating prosperity for the entire community," he said, who once served as the Head of the Central Kalimantan Regional Personnel Agency.
