Surabaya Health Office Finds New Clusters Of COVID-19 Transmission

SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Health Office found several new clusters of COVID-19 transmission in the City of Heroes, East Java, since 2022.

"The cause of the cluster occurrence is due to the high mobility of Surabaya residents, the decreasing level of community compliance with health procedures, and the emergence of the Omicron variant with a high transmission rate", said the Head of the Surabaya City Health Office, Nanik Sukristina, in Surabaya, Friday, March 5.

Several clusters found were clusters of public facilities, family, history of domestic and foreign travel, face-to-face learning (PTM) in schools, and offices.

Therefore, she continued, to anticipate the occurrence of COVID-19 transmission in the city of Surabaya, her party seeks to accelerate the implementation of booster vaccination (third dose) for the general public.

In fact, she continued, the implementation of the booster vaccination in the city of Surabaya since Wednesday, January 12 which previously targeted the age of 18 years and over with the priority of the elderly, has been expanded to the general public.

For this reason, she said, booster vaccination can now be given to the public at an interval of three months from the second dose with the achievement of booster vaccination in Surabaya until Wednesday, March 2.

Meanwhile, for the third dose, the elderly were 87,626 or 96.63 percent of the total target elderly who were ready to be vaccinated with an interval of three months from the second dose of 90,678 people.

"The achievement of the third dose of non-elderly was 328,163 or 56.47 percent of the total target of non-elderly who were ready to be vaccinated with an interval of 3 months from dose 2 of 581,134 people", she said.
