Rejecting Postponed 2024 Election, Gerindra Deputy: We Always Obey The Constitution

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, Sugiono, emphasized that his party adheres to constitutional provisions and principles. This was conveyed to address the issue of delaying the 2024 Election.

Sugiono emphasized that the constitution clearly states that elections are held once every five years. Elections must also be carried out directly, publicly, free of secrets (Luber) and Jurdil.

"Gerindra will always obey constitutional provisions and principles. The 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia states that general and fair elections are held every five years and that is a clear order from our constitution," said Sugiono in a statement, Tuesday, March 1.

Then, continued Sugiono, as a nation that has chosen democracy as a political system, one of its manifestations is the holding of regular and periodic general elections.

In general, the people's response also shows a desire for the election to be held according to the time set in 2024.

"Meanwhile, the government and the DPR have also agreed that the date for the election will be set on February 14, 2024," said the member of Commission I of the DPR RI.

"In due course the Chairman of the Board of Trustees who is also our General Chair will convey the official opinion of the GERINDRA Party, considering that this issue is still an issue circulating outside the formal channels, both in the executive and legislative branches," he concluded.

Previously, the General Chair of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, through his spokesman Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, expressed his rejection of the postponement of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"Regarding the discourse on postponing the 2024 General Election, Pak Prabowo Subianto stated that he respects our constitution and wants to continue to maintain our constitution and maintain a healthy democracy," Dahnil said in a video statement to reporters, Tuesday, March 1.

Prabowo is currently continuing to communicate with various parties to discuss the discourse on postponing this election. Dahnil said this step was carried out with various figures.

"Pak Prabowo also continues to communicate and stay in touch with other political figures from both political parties and other figures," he said.
