JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said that the KPK could take over the handling of alleged corruption in the police or prosecutor's office. This step is usually taken when there are cases whose handling is not completed or is influenced by other parties.

This was conveyed by Firli when holding an audience with the police and prosecutors in Banten. This activity was attended by the Head of the Banten Police, Inspector General Rudy Heryanto and the Head of Banten Province, Reda Manthovani.

"If the case is not finished, or there is influence from the power and involvement of the real perpetrators who do not want to be revealed, then it may be taken over," said Firli in a written statement, Friday, February 25.

Firli said the steps to take over this case were regulated in Law Number 19 of 2019 and Presidential Regulation Number 102 of 2020 concerning the Implementation of Supervision for the Eradication of Corruption Crimes.

In addition, in the meeting Firli also explained the procedures for implementing supervision to all audience members. He said the KPK would send a letter to the Indonesian Attorney General's Office or the Indonesian National Police regarding the case supervision plan to be carried out by the KPK.

"If the Corruption Eradication Commission wants to carry out supervision, the KPK will notify the Indonesian Attorney General's Office and the Indonesian Police. They will be notified and decided on what cases will be supervised," said Firli.

Firli said that during 2021 there were 107 files supervised by the KPK. In which 92 case files have been staged, with details of 69 declared P21, 14 inkracht or permanent legal force, and 9 of them having their investigation terminated through the issuance of a Case Investigation Order (SP3).

All of these steps were taken because the task of eradicating corruption was given to the KPK, the Prosecutor's Office, and also the Police. Therefore, the three institutions must work together for optimal corruption eradication.

"Because it is impossible for corruption to only be handled by the KPK. There needs to be an orchestration between the Prosecutor's Office, the Police, and the KPK," said Firli.
