Fake KPK Letters In English Circulating In Bandung And Kendari, The Contents Asking For IDR 7 Million To Unblock Accounts

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) received information that there was a fake letter bearing the KPK logo to blackmail certain parties.

The letter in English is dated February 18, 2022. In addition to the KPK logo, there is the signature of the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Alexander Marwata, who is said to be the KPK management.

"This fake letter states that the KPK asked for money in the amount of Rp. 7 million to be able to unblock the account or not to confiscate the money contained in the account of a certain party in question," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Sector Ali Fikri in a written statement, Thursday, February 24. .

Ali said the letter was known to be circulating in the Bandung and Kendari areas. "However, it is possible for similar letters to be circulated in other areas," he said.

The KPK asked the public to be careful. Because, Ali said, his institution has never collected fees for the process of closing or opening account blocks.

"The act of blocking an account in the context of investigating a case by the KPK is carried out in a professional and accountable manner. The entire process is based on applicable procedures, provisions and regulations, as well as in collaboration with the relevant authorities," he stressed.

For this incident, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) expressly asks whoever made or misused the fake letter to stop their actions.

"We also urge the public to always be careful and alert to various modes of fraud on behalf of the KPK," said Ali.

"If the public encounters or knows of a party claiming to be an employee or correspondence with the identity of the KPK, and committing a criminal act of extortion or the like, immediately report it to the 198 call center or to local law enforcement officials," he concluded.
