Russia Launches Attack On Ukraine, Indonesian Government Firmly Asks For International Law And UN Charter To Be Obeyed

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government expressed concern regarding the conditions that occurred in Ukraine, along with Russia's attack on the East Ukraine region, asking that international law be obeyed and all parties prioritize negotiations and diplomacy.

In the statement of the Indonesian Government's stance delivered by the Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, four points were made in a virtual press statement on Thursday, February 24, as follows:

1. Concerned about the escalation of the armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine which seriously endangers the safety of the people and has an impact on peace in the region.

2. Affirming that international law and the United Nations Charter regarding the territorial integrity of a country are adhered to and condemning any action that clearly constitutes a violation of the territorial territory and sovereignty of a country.

3. Reaffirming that all parties continue to prioritize negotiations and diplomacy to stop conflicts and prioritize peaceful settlements.

4. The Indonesian Embassy (Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia) has taken the necessary steps to save Indonesian citizens in Ukraine according to the contingency plan that has been prepared.

Regarding Indonesian citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that a total of 138 Indonesian citizens in Ukraine are currently in safe condition, with the Indonesian Embassy in Kyiv having managed to establish communication and carry out a contingency plan.

"The Indonesian Embassy has managed to establish communication with 138 Indonesian citizens in Ukraine. The majority are in Kyiv and all of them are in safe condition. The contingency plan has been implemented, with Indonesian citizens being asked to gather at the Indonesian Embassy in Kyiv. determine. As previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed limited military operations in Eastern Ukraine, prompting the West to react with President Joe Biden calling Moscow responsible, while the UN Secretary-General asked Russia to withdraw its troops in the name of humanity.

In a special televised address on Russian state TV, President Putin said Russia had no choice but to defend itself against what he said were threats emanating from modern Ukraine.

The Russian leader said Moscow had no choice but to launch the operation, the scope of which was not immediately clear.

"I have decided to carry out a special military operation," said President Putin.

"The aim is to protect people who have been subjected to intimidation and genocide over the past eight years. And for this, we will fight for the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine."

"And to bring to justice those who committed many bloody crimes against civilians, including against citizens of the Russian Federation," said President Putin.
