Analyst's Analysis: Electability Doesn't Continue To Increase So Cak Imin's Reason For Postponing Elections

JAKARTA - A political observer from Indonesia's Al Azhar University, Ujang Komarudin, assessed that the PKB Chairperson, Muhaimin Iskandar, proposed a postponement of the 2024 election because his electability as a presidential candidate had not increased. Moreover, the relationship between PKB and the new PBNU management is less harmonious.

"That has something to do with the issue of Cak Imin. The issue of electability is not increasing and is not in harmony with PBNU," said Ujang in Jakarta, Thursday, February 24. According to him, what Muhaimin, who is familiarly called Cak Imin said, was in the interests of the oligarchs and corporations. Not for the benefit of the people.

Furthermore, said Ujang, the push to postpone the election would be of another interest if the general chairperson of other political parties also supported the postponement of the election time. The interest in question is the desire to make President Joko Widodo into three terms.

"The party chairman who supports the extension of the president's term of office has betrayed reform. If that is the case, only the power of the people will stop the scenario," said Ujang.

Previously, the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, proposed that the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) be postponed. Because according to him, economic improvement should not be disrupted by the election contestation. He found this after receiving input from MSME actors and analysts regarding the economic prospects this year.

"From my visit to the region and seeing the positive prospects going forward, this good momentum in the future should not be ignored. Therefore, I see that in 2024 the elections that we plan to hold in February, do not let the good economic prospects It's disrupted because of the election," said Cak Imin at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 23.

"Hopefully I will pass on my proposal to my friends and party leaders. I propose it to the President. So, if it's true, we'll see if it can be postponed or not," he said.
