MEDAN - North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to continue to nurture all regional heads in North Sumatra because he does not want any more regents or mayors to be caught by the KPK because of legal problems.
This was stated during a coordination meeting with the Deputy Chair of the KPK, Alexander Marwata, and 33 regional heads who were present at the Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall in Medan, Wednesday, February 23.
Governor Edy also expressed his gratitude to the KPK, which did not take immediate action but still wanted to develop it.
The issue of corruption, said Rahmayadi, became an obstacle when he was just appointed as governor of North Sumatra, especially since the world of government was a new thing for him.
According to Governor Edy, being the commander of Kostrad is easier than being the governor of North Sumatra, even though the Kostrad commander's work area is from Sabang to Merauke. "When I was yesterday on 'another planet' (TNI), it wasn't as difficult as this. I managed from Sabang to Merauke it wasn't this difficult, but now it's difficult", he said.
Governor Edy said the difficulties he felt were helped by the presence of the KPK which was supervising it. Edy said Financial Audit Agency (BPK) also helped in the process of preparing and realizing the Regional Budget.
"For this reason, these tools have been prepared. There is a KPK in supervising, there is a BPK (Financial Audit Agency) in accountability, there is a BPKP (Financial and Development Supervisory Agency) which oversees from planning to budgeting", he said.

Even though the KPK exists, according to him, corrupt practices still occur. "I ask for help from all of us, if we don't go to hell we will later. Say we weren't caught by the KPK, say we weren't caught by the Attorney General's Office, say we weren't caught by the BPK, but God has never neglected to supervise this", he said.
