West Java Prosecutor's Office Composes Indictments, Bahar Smith Hoax Case Will Be Tried Soon

BANDUNG - The case of spreading false news or hoaxes with the suspect Bahar Smith will be tried immediately.

Head of the Legal Information Section of the West Java High Prosecutor's Office, Dodi Gazali Emil, said that his party was currently compiling an indictment file before delegating the case to the court.

"What is clear is that the file is complete and is in phase two, it's just a matter of preparation for it to be handed over to the court, basically as soon as possible," said Dodi in Bandung, West Java, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 18.

The indictment was prepared by a team of public prosecutors from the West Java District Attorney's Office and the Bandung District Attorney's Office. The Bahar case occurred in Bandung Regency.

In Bahar's case, according to him, the prosecutor's office is preparing a public prosecutor with experience in handling cases of violations of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE).

Bahar Smith was named a suspect in a hoax case on Monday, December 3 night after Bahar was questioned at the West Java Regional Police for 9 hours.

Besides Bahar, there is another suspect with the initials TR who is suspected of uploading a video containing hoaxes by Bahar.

Bahar is suspected of violating Article 14 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) and Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Law Regulations and/or Article 28 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45A paragraph (2) of the ITE Law jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) number 1E of the Criminal Code.
