Preventing Deadly Accidents From Repeating, Imogiri-Dlingo Bantul Line Can't Be Passed By Tourism Buses

BANTUL - The Bantul Resort Police together with the Bantul Transportation Service held a focus group discussion (FGD) related to the management and engineering of tourism bus traffic in response to a single bus accident that killed 13 passengers on Bego Hill, Jalan Imogiri-Dlingo.

"We have held a FGD by inviting the Pokdarwis in Mangunan, as well as the village head and local government, the first point is that from the discussion forum it was agreed that the Imogiri-Dlingo road should not be passed by tourism buses," said Bantul Police Chief AKBP Ihsan, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 11.

According to him, the agreement was reached so that the tourist bus accident does not happen again on the Imogiri-Dlingo route, Bantul, considering that the route has many steep climbs and descents and bends following the hilly topography.

Thus, he said, tourism buses that would travel to the Mangunan, Dlingo area were diverted through the northern route or the Patuk Gunung Kidul area, which was considered more adequate for bus vehicles both for boarding and returning.

"For tourism, we will direct the descent on the Patuk route, which so far has a route, we will return it to it. So Imogiri-Dlingo is not allowed to cross the tourism bus," said the Head of Police.

According to him, the ban on tourist buses crossing the Imogiri-Dlingo route has been in effect since the agreement was agreed upon by the forum. And for implementation in the field, the Bantul Police will place members at several Mangunan points.

"Then every Saturday and Sunday we will place personnel around the location to direct vehicles to get off in the Patuk area, there are personnel from the National Police, Dishub are two points of agreement that we agreed on," he said.

The police chief said that the local and sub-district administrations and the Mangunan pokdarwis had understood the policy, although previously it was admitted that there had been tough discussions before the agreement was finally reached.

"The local government, kelurahan and pokdarwis have understood, because they are also in mourning, and hope that such an incident will not occur, of course we will also convey this to the DIY Transportation Agency, because the road and the accident scene are provincial roads," he said.
