Jakarta Contributes To The Most COVID-19 Cases, But The Fastest Increase In Cases In Banten

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, revealed that DKI Jakarta contributed the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the last 6 weeks. However, the fastest increase in cases occurred in Banten.

Wiku explained, DKI Jakarta contributed 42 percent of the national COVID-19 cases. However, the increase in cases over the last 6 weeks was 138 times in 6 weeks.

Meanwhile, Banten contributed 14.31 percent of national cases. Then, the increase in cases reached 620 times in the last 6 weeks.

"Banten is the province with the fastest increase in cases", said Wiku in a virtual press conference, Thursday, February 10.

In addition to the two regions, another province that dominates national COVID-19 cases in West Java contributed 23.5 percent of national cases with a 336-fold increase in cases in 6 weeks.

Then, East Java contributed 5 percent of national cases with an 83-fold increase in cases, Central Java which contributed 3 percent of national cases with a 67-fold increase in cases, and DI Yogyakarta which contributed 1 percent of national cases with a 51-fold increase in cases in 6 weeks.

Wiku said the significant increase in these areas, especially areas with rapidly increasing cases such as Banten, Bali, and West Java, showed the importance of limiting community activities in PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions) level 3.

"With these conditions, efforts to slow down the increase in cases are not enough. Even though it is difficult, local governments must strive so that there are no more additional cases in the next two weeks, or the increase in cases is equal to zero", explained Wiku.

"In this case, the main key to success is eliminating additional cases, which is the maximum application of health protocol discipline", he continued.
