Strong Wind Potential, Purbalingga Regent Asks Residents To Be Alert

PURBALINGGA - Purbalingga Regent Dyah Hayuning Pratiwi appealed to residents to be aware of the potential for high wind disasters following increased rainfall in the local area in recent days.

"Residents of our area should be aware of the potential for high wind disasters, because on Friday (4/2) yesterday there was also a strong wind disaster in Karanggedang Village, Bukateja District which damaged 32 roofs of houses," she said in Purbalingga, Central Java, Monday 7 February.

The Regent said that her party had directly inspected the houses of the affected residents as well as distributed aid in the form of materials and basic needs.

The Regent also thanked all parties who had worked together to repair houses affected by the disaster.

In addition, she also appealed to residents not to panic but to remain vigilant following an increase in rainfall which is feared to trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as strong winds, floods, and landslides.

"When there are incidents in the area, they immediately coordinate with the Regency Government through BPBDs including the TNI-Polri so that they can be followed up immediately," she said.

Meanwhile, the chief executive of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Umar Fauzi) also asked residents to be aware of the potential for high wind disasters and to play an active role in mitigation efforts such as trimming tree branches that are prone to breaking or falling.

"The impact of this strong wind generally causes the roof of the house to be damaged and a small part of it also has damaged walls," he said.

Meanwhile, the Banjarnegara Geophysics Station (BMKG Banjarnegara) also reminded the importance of increasing vigilance during the rainy season.

Head of BMKG Banjarnegara Setyoajie Prayoedie invites the public not to panic but need to continue to increase vigilance, especially if there is rain with high intensity and long duration.

"Be careful if there is heavy rain with a long enough duration, which is more than 30 minutes because it is feared that it could potentially trigger a hydrometeorological disaster," he said.

Based on the BMKG forecast, an increase in rainfall intensity in some areas in Central Java has the potential to occur over the next few days.
