JAKARTA - Malaysia recorded a slight decline in COVID-19 cases with new infections reaching 4,915 on Sunday (30/1) after breaking through the 5,000 case mark over the past three days.

"The new cases bring the cumulative number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 2,865,984 cases since the pandemic began," said Malaysia's Director-General of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah in Kuala Lumpur, Sunday, January 30, 2022, as reported by Antara.

Hisham said of the new cases, 4,727 were local infections while 188 were imported.

Hisham added that as many as 99.2 percent or 4,876 cases were in Categories One and Two while 0.8 percent or 39 patients were in Categories Three, Four, and Five.

Category one is an asymptomatic patient, category two has mild symptoms, category three has pneumonia requiring hospitalization, category four requires oxygen assistance with an average ICU stay of 14 days.

While the fifth category is critical patients who require respiratory support with an average of 21 days in the ICU.

"There are 120 cases that require treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) while 65 patients require ventilator assistance. Today there are also 3,056 recovered and 14 new clusters," he said.

Meanwhile, the national COVID-19 infectivity level or Rt (R-naught) reached 1.14 on Saturday (29 January), slightly down from 1.15 Rt recorded on Friday (28/1).
