The Task Force Admits Covid-19 Has Not Succeeded In Consistent Pressure

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, admitted that Indonesia had not succeeded in consistently reducing the rate of COVID-19 cases. Even though the pandemic has been running for six months.

The inconsistency appears because at the beginning of this year, when the pandemic occurred in Indonesia. The government seems able to control the number of COVID-19 cases. However, this is not visible now because of the massive increase in the number of cases.

"The last few weeks have seen a significant increase in the number of cases and of course what we can control before is an alarming condition," Wiku said in a press conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account, Thursday, September 3.

"What does all this mean? It means that we have not succeeded in consistently suppressing and preventing transmission on a national basis," he added.

Wiku also emphasized that as of Thursday, September 3, there were a significant addition of 3,622 cases of COVID-19.

"Where if we see there are four provinces that have contributed to this figure. Of course other provinces too, but these are the four largest," he said.

The four provinces in question are DKI Jakarta with the addition of 1,359 cases, East Java with 377 cases, Central Java with 242 cases, and West Java with 238 cases.

Reflecting on these figures, Wiku asked the public to play an active role in suppressing the COVID-19 cases in Indonesia because the government cannot work alone.

"This is our duty. It is not only the task of the government but also the duty of the whole community to be truly obedient in implementing disciplined health protocols individually and collectively," he concluded.
