JAKARTA - A domestic assistant from Kebonsari Kulon, Kangaran, Probolinggo Regency, East Java Province, Ramiyati (60) has not been paid for four years after working for her employer in Pandan Indah, Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

"According to Mrs. Ramiyati's confession, she has not been paid for four years. Her employer promised to only pay 700 ringgit (Rp 2.4 million) per month," said the treasurer of the Malaysian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI), Wati, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 28. .

Wati and her friends at the SBMI have taken the mother to the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, so that she can be temporarily accommodated in the embassy shelter while waiting for help from the embassy to try to pay off her salary by the employer.

Regarding his meeting with Ramiyati, Wati said that initially the Chairman of the Malaysian SBMI received a direct complaint from Ramiyati.

"Initially, Mrs. Ramiyati asked to be sent home, considering she was old but had no money. The head of the SBMI took the initiative to subsidize the cost of returning home, but the mother admitted that she had a salary that her employer had not paid for four years," he said.

The SBMI has tried to communicate directly with the employer but there has been no positive response. Finally, the Embassy has to ask the Indonesian Embassy to resolve it through the ambassador directly and they are asked to come to the embassy.

"Mrs. Ramiyati admitted that she had been in Malaysia for almost 15 years, changing employers and agents. She also took her last job from an agent," he said.

Wati recounted that Ramiyati was escorted by her employer to a friend's rented house and her employer promised her salary would be paid after she returned to Indonesia.

He said that Ramiyati's employer had promised to take him home but it never came. Finally, Ramiyati asked to be taken to a friend's rented house where he had lived for a month.

"He stayed at a friend's rented house while waiting for his salary but it was not given. Finally he asked us for help to take care of it," he said.

The Coordinator of the Consular Function of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Rijal Al Huda, when confirmed, said that his party had checked Ramiyati's whereabouts.

"I checked earlier, currently Mrs. Ramiyati has been accommodated at the Indonesian Embassy shelter. The Indonesian Embassy will seek to fulfill Mrs. Ramiyati's rights. The employer will be called for mediation and if she is not cooperative, she will report it to the Manpower Office (JTK)," he said.
