The Attorney General's Office Examines Garuda Indonesia's Managing Director And Vice President

JAKARTA - Investigators from the Directorate General for Special Crimes at the Attorney General's Office examined Irfan Setiaputra, President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia as a witness in the investigation into the alleged corruption case in the airline's financial management.

"IS is being investigated in relation to the procurement and payment for PT Garuda Indonesia's aircraft," said Head of the Attorney General's Office for Legal Information Center Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak in a written statement quoted by Antara, Monday, January 24.

Witness Irfan Setiaputra, investigators examined three other witnesses, namely MAW as President Director of PT Citilink Indonesia (Persero), MT as the Internal Supervisory Unit of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., and MP as Vice President of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.

According to Leonard, the three witnesses are the mechanism for the procurement and payment of PT Garuda's aircraft.

"This witness examination is to provide information for the purpose of investigating a criminal case that he heard, saw, and experienced in order to find legal facts about corruption that occurred in the financial management of PT Garuda Indonesia," Leonard said.

The Attorney General's Office has raised the status of the alleged corruption case against PT Garuda Indonesia to the public investigation stage on Wednesday, January 19. In the first stage, investigators studied the ATR 72-600 aircraft.

Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin said the investigation would expand not only to ATR 72-600, but also Bombardier, Airbus, Boeing, and Rolls Royce.

In a press conference on Wednesday, January 19, Burhanuddin said that his party would coordinate with the KPK intensely. This coordination is because there are several cases that have been completed at the KPK related to corruption cases at Garuda Indonesia.

Therefore, coordination with the KPK will facilitate the steps of investigators in the Special Crimes of the Attorney General's Office because the evidence and construction of evidence may already be in the KPK.

Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Indonesian Attorney General's Office, Febrie Adriansyah, revealed that this case resulted in considerable losses to the state.

He gave an example of the procurement of aircraft rental indicated a loss of Rp 3.6 trillion.

"So the perspective of investigators at the Attorney General's Office is at the same time trying to find out how the losses that have occurred at Garuda will be recovered," said Febrie.

It should be noted that the losses that occurred at Garuda took place when ES served as the main director. Febrie said, ES has been processed by the KPK and is currently serving a sentence. However, there are losses that still occur at Garuda.

Therefore, the Attorney General ordered his party to conduct an investigation in order to clearly see who was responsible beyond what was determined by the KPK and how they could try to recover from the loss.
