PADANG - The Padang City Government has started to vaccinate against COVID-19 for children aged 6-11 years in order to realize group immunity in the area.

The Mayor of Padang, Hendri Septa, said that the COVID-19 vaccination for children aged 6-11 years was started as an effort to achieve group immunity for students at the elementary school level.

He conveyed this at the vaccination launch at SDN 01, 02, 07 and 08 Homeland Complex, Ulak Karang Selatan Village, North Padang District.

According to him, there are more than 8,000 students at the elementary school level who will be injected with the vaccine.

"With the success of vaccination for students 6-11 years old, it is hoped that the teaching and learning process can return to normal," he said in Padang, as reported by Antara, Monday, January 24.

He said that everyone did not know when the COVID-19 pandemic would end, so the vaccination given to all citizens, including students aged 6-11 years, was an effort to fortify themselves from COVID-19.

He conveyed that the achievement of COVID-19 vaccination in Padang City is currently 80 percent and for the elderly it has reached 70 percent.

"With this achievement, we can implement the minimum requirements to vaccinate children aged 6-12 years," he said.
