4 Times OTT At The Beginning Of The Year, KPK: A Serious Effort To Eradicate Corruption

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has carried out hand arrest operations (OTT) four times in January 2022. In the aftermath of this activity, three regional heads and one judge were named suspects.

"The arrest operation at the beginning of 2022 is a manifestation of the KPK's commitment to continue to make serious efforts to eradicate corruption through enforcement strategies," said KPK Deputy Chair Nawawi Pomolango as quoted from the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Monday, January 24.

However, in an effort to eradicate corruption, the KPK cannot run alone. Nawawi said that all parties, from the legislature to political parties, must orchestrate and play an active role.

The legislative chamber, he said, must play a role in drafting corruption-free legislation. Meanwhile, the executive chamber must play a role in the preparation, implementation, and supervision of the use of the state budget that is free from corruption.

"The Judiciary Chamber plays a role in carrying out judicial processes that are free from corruption. Likewise, political parties must also be free and free from corruption," said Nawawi.

At least, there have been four silent operations carried out by the KPK during this month of January. On Wednesday, January 5, the KPK arrested the Mayor of Bekasi, Rahmat Effendi. Then a week later or Wednesday, January 12, it was the turn of the North Penajam Paser Regent, Abdul Gafur Mas'ud, to be arrested by the KPK. Subsequently, the KPK team moved again and succeeded in arresting the Regent of Langkat, who published a Wind War Plan on Tuesday, January 18th.

Finally, the KPK arrested Judge Itong Isnaeni Hidayat along with two other people, namely a substitute clerk named Hamdan and a lawyer who is also a representative of PT Soyu Giri Primedika, Hendro Kasiono.

The three are suspected of bribery in handling cases at the Surabaya District Court, East Java. The KPK found evidence in the form of IDR 140 million during a hand arrest operation (OTT).
