University Of Surabaya Student Dies While Climbing A Mountain

SURABAYA - University of Surabaya (Ubaya) Psychology Faculty student, Erfando Ilham Nainggolan died while climbing Mount Penanggungan in Trawas District, Mojokerto Regency, Sunday morning around 01.00 western Indonesia time.

"Having returned to the House of Father in Heaven, a student of the Faculty of Psychology, the University of Surabaya named Erfando Ilham Nainggolan after participating in the UKM (Student Activity Unit) Mapaus Adventure Training Vol XXXV in Perhutani Area, Trawas, Mojokerto," said Ubaya Public Relations Hayuning Purnama through his statement in Surabaya, Sunday 23 January.

Quoted by Antara, Hayuning revealed that 12 participants from the Mapaus Adventure Training departed from Ubaya Campus II on January 19, 2022, camping in the Trawas Perhutani Area, Mojokerto until January 20, 2022. After that, they continued climbing to Mount Penanggungan, Trawas until January 23, 2022.

The chronology of his death is on January 22, 2022, at around 22.00 western Indonesia time. Erfando Ilham Nainggolan conveyed his fatigue to the committee.

"Then the committee called Ranger Gunung Penggungan to be evacuated. Arriving at Pos 1 Erfando was declared dead by health workers. The body was taken to the Trawas Health Center and further examination was carried out at Dr. Soekandar Hospital, Mojosari," he said.

Erfando is the youngest of four children from Binoni Eduard Nainggolan and Nurbaya Wanty Marpaung. Currently, both parents are waiting for the body at the funeral home in the Bulak Banteng Madya area, Surabaya.

"We, the entire Academic Community of the University of Surabaya, express our deepest condolences to the family. Hopefully, the bereaved family will be given fortitude and strength," said Hayuning.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor of the University of Surabaya, Dr. Benny Lianto, representing the campus academic community, expressed his deepest condolences and hoped that the families of the victims would be given courage.

The Chancellor also took the time to go to the funeral home as well as provide compensation to Erfando's family.

"The Ubaya academic community expresses deep condolences to the family. Erfando Ilham Nainggolan is currently attending character education at Trawas, but God has other plans. I believe that the deceased has a place in the Father's house," said Benny.

Ubaya, he continued, is fully responsible for financing from the hospital to the funeral which is planned to be held on Monday (24/1) at 16.00 western Indonesia time at the Keputih TPU Surabaya.
