Discovery Of Cable Shells In Bungur Kemayoran Culverts, Allegedly By Copper Thieves

JAKARTA - Tens of kilograms of coils of cable skin found in the waterway of Bungur Raya Street, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta are accused of being traces of a suspected case of copper theft.

Head of the Central Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-dept., Agustio, said it was possible that the perpetrators only took the contents of the cable, namely copper, which has a selling value.

"Maybe someone took it because he wanted to take the copper", Agustio told reporters, Friday, January 21.

Agustio said the cable was in the ground, next to the water channel. So, Agustio said, the perpetrators broke through the sewers. However, Agustio did not know exactly what the facts were.

"Maybe it was broken up, pulled, taken. I don't know either, I didn't see it. The cable is working or not, I don't know. It must have been dismantled in the culvert, taken", he said.

Head of Section for the Maintenance of the Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-dept., Achmad Daeroby, said that the discovery of cables in the waterways of Bungur Raya Street, Kemayoran was the first time this had happened.

"Previously we also had draining activities there, but it's safe and no cables were found", he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the alleged theft of the cable in the water channel where the cable skin was found, the Central Jakarta SDA Sub-dept. has not reported the case to the Police.

"Until now, I'll ask the leadership, I don't know the directions. Because we got information from Bina Marga friends", he said.
