KPU Yalimo Destroys 159 Ballots

WAMENA - The General Election Commission (KPU) of Yalimo Regency, Papua Province, destroyed 159 more and damaged ballots to prevent misuse at the Yalimo Regent and Deputy Regent Election party, 26 January 2022.

KPU chairman Yalimo Yehemia Walianggen said the 159 ballots consisted of more than 156 ballots and three were damaged.

"After the sorting was done, there were more that were sent by the printing company so there were 159 ballots with details of three torn or damaged, then 156 more, so today we invite all parties and then we destroy them," he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, January 21.

The ballots were destroyed by tearing and burning. The destruction took place at the Yalimo KPU Logistics Warehouse in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency.

"The destruction was attended by the Jayawijaya Prosecutor's Office, Wamena Court, Yalimo Bawaslu, Yalimo Police, Jayawijaya Kodim, representatives of candidate pairs number 1 and 2 and attended by KPU, Papua Province Bawaslu," he said. The destruction of the extra ballots and the signing of the minutes by invited guests are a form of KPU's transparency in carrying out regional head elections there.

"The 90,948 votes are already in the box. Tomorrow, January 22, we will distribute them," he said.
