UI Student Killed By KRL: Police Don't Want To Speculate That The Victim Using Headsets When Crossing Rails

DEPOK - University of Indonesia (UI) student BMS died when he was hit by an Electric Rail Train (KRL) while crossing a railroad crossing at Pondok Cina Station, Depok, Thursday, January 20 at around 13.05 western Indonesia time.

It is said, when passing through the crossing, the victim was using a headset so that he did not hear the warning from local officers.

Beji Police Chief, Commissioner Agus Khaeron said his party did not want to speculate on the news that the victim was using a headset when crossing. According to him, the initial assumption was that BMS was in a hurry to cross the railroad tracks.

"(Whether using the headset) we don't know, because that's what people say. The initial assumption is that the victim was in a hurry to cross the rail,” said Agus, when confirmed by VOI, Friday, January 21.

Agus explained that the incident began when the victim who came from the direction of the University of Indonesia (UI) wanted to cross to Pondok Cina, Depok.

At that time, the whistle and the signal for the train to pass were heard loudly. But the victim still forced to cross the train tracks.

"The witness blew the whistle and shouted 'watch out for the train' so the victim didn't cross, but the victim continued to cross," he said.

"So the victim was hit by the commuter line 1676 train majoring Jakarta-Bogor," he said.

As a result of the incident, the victim was dragged up to 25 meters in front of the Pondok Cina Station platform.

"The body was taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for post-mortem because the body was damaged and could not be recognized," he said.
