JAKARTA - Mayor of Semarang Hendrar Prihadi emphasized that parents' permission is the number one requirement that must be met when schools restart face-to-face learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"There are requirements that have been determined by the Ministry of Education and Culture regarding the start of face-to-face learning," said the mayor who is familiarly called Hendi in Semarang, quoted by Antara, Monday, August 31.

Schools that were allowed to reopen learning, he said, were only in the yellow or green zone. "If the city of Semarang is not, but if per urban village or per district can," he added.

The second requirement, he said, must have a permit from the task force handling COVID-19 at the Semarang City level.

Furthermore, according to him, the readiness of schools in implementing health protocols within the educational institution.

"Then the most important thing is permission from the parents of students. Now it is reversed, permission from parents is number one," he said.

As long as these conditions are met, he said, face-to-face learning can be carried out by enforcing strict health protocols and a number of restrictions.

He gave an example, teachers must be prepared with a limit on the number of students who carry out learning, or learning can be carried out within a few hours of entering school.

Previously, DPR Commission X Deputy Chairman Agustina Wilujeng encouraged schools to immediately reopen face-to-face learning in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, by implementing strict health protocols.

"It's okay for me to be bullied. Children need face-to-face learning," said Agustina.

According to him, students need the gaze and touch of their teachers. "Students need to joke with their friends. This is an effort to prepare students to become good social people," said the PDIP politician.
