Sidoarjo Police Reveals Fraud Cases Through Social Media, Victims Lost Motorcycles And Millions Of Rupiah

SIDOARJO - The Sidoarjo Police, East Java team uncovered cases of fraud and embezzlement by NH by looking for victims through social media.

The Sidoarjo Police Chief Kombes Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro said the NH perpetrators captured their victims using social media.

"Then the perpetrator became acquainted with K, a woman from Tulangan, Sidoarjo," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 18.

The police chief said that for about six months the two had communicated intensively through social media until they finally decided to have a face-to-face meeting.

"From the introduction of the two on social media, there were two face-to-face meetings," he said.

At the second meeting at a cafe in Porong, NH, K borrowed a motorbike to go somewhere, but after waiting for several hours NH did not return.

Because he felt he had become a victim of fraud or embezzlement, said Kombes Kusumo, victim K finally reported the incident to the Porong Police Station, Sidoarjo Police.

The victim claimed to have lost a motorcycle which is still being investigated by the police. In addition, in the motorcycle seat there is cash worth Rp. 3 million and a cell phone unit.

"From the victim's report, the police immediately arrested NH as a suspect in a fraud or embezzlement case, as in Article 372 or 378 of the Criminal Code with a threat of imprisonment for four years," he said.

The Sidoarjo Police Chief appealed to the public to be wise in using social media and not to easily trust strangers through social media.

"Once again, the public is more careful when getting to know people, especially through social media," he said.
