JAKARTA - Dozens of street vendors (PKL) who sell in front of the General Hospital of the Indonesian Christian University (UKI), East Jakarta, are lying on the road as a form of protest against the officers carrying out the order.

The merchant, who has been selling for decades, unfurled banners so that some resorted to sleeping on the street as a form of protest.

"Today there is a refusal and that's normal because the traders have been here for more than 25 years and we demand that they return the function of the sidewalks," said East Jakarta Administration Assistant Eka Darmawan in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 18, as reported by Antara.

The control of street vendors in front of UKI General Hospital is in accordance with Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2007 concerning Public Order.

Eka also said that previously the street vendors had also been given socialization and were invited to dialogue regarding the relocation of new selling places.

"For street vendors, we have done socialization with the UMKM Sub-Department for placement in the target locations, in Cililitan and Munjul," said Eka.

The impact of the street vendors' protests was that the traffic flow on Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo from the direction of Cililitan to Cawang stagnated.

Meanwhile, the head of the UKI PKL Association, Eva Marliana Sianturi (40) said the traders refused to relocate to the three selected locations provided by the East Jakarta City Government because they were deemed unsuitable and empty of visitors.

"It's not adequate because only genderuwo buys there, no one else. It's not appropriate, there's a place to dispose of corpses, it's like," said Eva.

Eva said that if the East Jakarta City Government wanted to arrange the sidewalks in front of UKI Hospital, the traders asked to be relocated to the canteen inside UKI Hospital so they wouldn't lose customers.

"We have asked Pak Camat and Pak Lurah but they can't provide a solution," said Eva.
