Strong Wind Landa 2 Districts In Temanggung, Houses Damaged, Trees Fallen

TEMANGGUNG - Torrential winds accompanied by heavy rains hit two areas in Temanggung Regency, Central Java, namely in Temanggung and Kandangan sub-districts, causing a number of trees to fall and several houses damaged.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Temanggung Regency, Toifur Hadi, said that heavy rain accompanied by hurricanes occurred at around 16.00 WIB.

Reported by Antara, Monday, January 17, Toifur said that the hurricane in Temanggung District hit Sidorejo Village, North Walitelon Village, and Tlogorejo Village. Then in Kandangan sub-district it happened in Kedungumpul Village.

Toifur said rain and wind caused trees to fall at several points, including on Jalan Hayam Wuruk when a tree fell on a restaurant, causing light damage to the roof of the building.

Then on Jalan S. Kadar Maron, a tree fell on a number of street vendors' carts and broke a telephone cable pole

On the Maron North Ring Road, trees fell at three points, blocking the road and causing traffic jams. Fallen trees also hit power lines. The hurricane also caused the Temanggung TV transmitter antenna tower to collapse.

In the Kayogan neighborhood, Sidorejo Village, a fallen tree fell on the roof of a house belonging to Sukardi (64) and Ladiyo (52). A banyan tree fell on Widodo's garage and hit a parked pickup.

The hurricane also caused a number of houses in the Walitelon Village, Temanggung District and in Kedungumpul Village, Kandangan Sub-district to be damaged on the roof due to blurred tiles.

Toifur said that a number of fallen trees had been overcome by the BPBD team together with volunteers and the community.

He appealed to the public to always be aware of hurricanes, floods and landslides during this dry season.
