The Ship Of Suspected Illegal Immigrant Worker That Sank Was Apparently Used To Pick Up Methamphetamine Drugs To Malaysia

TANJUNGPINANG - Tanjungpinang Police Chief AKBP Fernando said the suspected illegal PMI ship with the initials A was apparently also used by a suspected international network drug dealer with the initials BW departed to pick up methamphetamine drugs to Malaysia from Gentong Port, Bintan, Riau Islands.

A was named a suspect by the Riau Islands Police, after his ship carrying dozens of illegal PMI sank in the waters of Tanjung Balau, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, December 15, 2021.

Police chief AKBP Fernando said BW chartered A's boat for Rp. 3.5 million to take 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 90 pills of ecstasy in the neighboring country, to be circulated in Indonesia.

After getting the illicit goods, he said, BW then returned from Malaysia to hire the services of a local fishing boat for 1 ounce 20 grams of methamphetamine.

"The suspect BW came home and went through illegal channels," said Police Chief Fernando at a press conference quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 12.

The police chief explained that the BW perpetrator was arrested by the drug unit in Tanjungpinang along with two other colleagues with the initials ZA and RE, on January 4, 2022.

Of the three, the police also confiscated 1 kilogram of 31.88 grams of methamphetamine and 27 pills of ecstasy.

The suspect BW is also a drug case recidivist and was imprisoned for four years, then released in 2020.

The three suspects are currently detained at the Tanjungpinang Police Headquarters and have violated Article 114 paragraph 2, Article 112 paragraph 2, Article 132 paragraph 2 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
