JAKARTA - Police in Osaka have arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of child abuse. He locked his two-month-old son in the fridge at minus 18° Celsius.
According to police, the incident occurred between April 15 and 16 last year in a hotel room in Fukuoka City, where the family was staying, Fuji TV reported, as quoted by Japan Today, Tuesday, January 11. The fridge is in the room.
Police said Tatsuji Nishioka, a company employee, was arrested on Monday.
"My son is so cute that I just wanted to play with him and had no intention of harassing him," said Tatsuji evasively.
The case came to light after a doctor in August diagnosed the baby with a fractured left femur and ribs. She contacted the Children Welfare Consulting Center, which reported the incident to the police.
The police searched Nishioka's home and found photos and video footage of Nishioka locking his baby boy in the freezer. There is also a video of the baby being left face down on the table at home.
