JEMBER - The Jember District Attorney finally executed Bagus Wantoro, a state civil servant (ASN) of the Jember Regency Government who was convicted of corruption in the 2010 education budget, to a correctional institution (lapas) after six years since the Supreme Court's (MA) decision was issued.

In 2016, the Supreme Court judge ruled that Bagus Wantoro was guilty in that case and had to serve a 5-year sentence in prison because he was proven involved in the corruption case of the 2010 Jember Education Special Allocation Fund (DAK) which cost the state Rp6.1 billion.

"We executed the corruption convict Bagus Wantoro to be put in prison on Monday (10/1) at around 17:20 WIB," said Head of the Intelligence Section of the Kejari Jember Soemarno, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 11.

According to him, the execution was successful after the Public Prosecutor (JPU) took the ball to the Surabaya Corruption Crime District Court (Tipikor) to obtain a copy of the cassation decision of the convict.

"We just received the Cassation Decision Number 1406/Pidsus/2016 dated May 2, 2016 on behalf of Bagus Wantoro on January 5, 2022. We picked up the ball," he said.

Regarding the issuance of the cassation decision, he continued, it was actually the Corruption Court's obligation to convey the decision to the Jember Kejari.

"After obtaining the physical decision letter for the cassation of convict Bagus Wantoro, the public prosecutor then followed up with legal steps to carry out the execution on Monday (10/1) afternoon," he said.

Based on the cassation letter obtained by the Jember Public Prosecutor's Office, the Jember Regency Government ASN, who had been inaugurated as a functional official of the Dispora Jember at the end of December 2021, was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rp. 200 million or a subsidiary of six months in prison.

Previously, the Jember Kejari had executed three defendants in the same case, namely Soegeng B Resobo, Sudjarwono, and Malai Sondi. At the time the corruption case occurred, all three were working at the Jember District Education Office.

The four convicts were found guilty in a corruption case involving the procurement of educational teaching aids in 2010 within the Jember Regency Education Office, even the former Head of the Education Office, Achmad Sudiono, was also a convict in that case and has already served his sentence, so he is currently free.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Jember, Hendy Siswanto, dishonorably dismissed the functional official of the Youth and Sports Service who had just been inaugurated a few days ago, namely Bagus Wantoro, for his status as a corruption convict based on the decision of the Supreme Court.
