The Sumatran Tiger That Preyed On The Calf In West Sumatra Finally Entered The Trap Cage

LUBUKBASUNG - The Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) that roams the residential area of Maua Hilia, Jorong Kayu Pasak Timur, Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan District, Agam Regency, has entered a trap cage installed by the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of West Sumatra.

"I confirm that the animal was caught in a trap and this is a report from residents. We are heading to the location," said Head of Agam Resort Ade Putra in Lubukbasung, as reported by Antara, Monday, January 10.

He said the location had been secured by the Head of the Palembayan Police and his personnel, Walinagari Salareh Aia and the Jorong Kayu Pasak Timur government apparatus.

Currently, his party is preparing the process of evacuating and observing protected animals under Law No. 5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Natural Resources and their Ecosystems. This is to ensure the health of the animal.

"The tiger entered the cage that was set up since Thursday, December 23," he said.

He said the Agam KSDA Resort had been handling human-tiger conflicts since December 1, 2021, after the local cows were eaten by tigers.

As a result, a calf belonging to a resident named Rano (38) died after being eaten and the mother was injured.

The animal has repeatedly entered the settlement and chased the livestock of other residents.

With that condition, his party eviction for a few days, but the tiger reappeared and evacuated by installing two trap cages.

Meanwhile, Wali Nagari Salareh Aia, Iron Maria Edi, added that the location was immediately sterilized from residents.

"I and the Palembayan Police, Iptu Diki Satria, forbade residents to approach the location, so that the animals do not feel disturbed," he said.

By having caught this tiger, residents have been able to harvest fresh fruit bunches of oil palm, areca nut and others.
