JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government has issued a recommendation letter for the restoration of the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) building in the cultural heritage site area of the Bung Karno Complex (GBK).
The Head of the DKI Jakarta Culture Service, Iwan Henry Wardhana, revealed that this recommendation letter was issued after the GBK manager's request and was continued by a trial process with the DKI Restoration Session Team.
This recommendation letter is made as an effort to protect cultural heritage buildings, suspected of having cultural heritage, or buildings located in the restoration area so that every restoration and development process remains in accordance with the principles of preservation.
"Through various inputs and suggestions in the hearing from experts who have competence in the field of preservation, we are working on the final design of the GBK IMS Building, which is designed to remain in accordance with the cultural heritage buildings in the area," said Iwan in his statement, Sunday, January 9.
Iwan said that the restoration was aimed at meeting the space requirements to facilitate basketball sports activities.
The construction of the IMS building was designed by the architect Ir. Widharko with a design concept inspired by woven basket crafts, an Indonesian cultural art product that is closely related to aspects of the life of the nation.
The plan is that the IMS Building will be built in the northwest of the Gelora Bung Karno Complex cultural heritage site or east of the Hall A Basket Building. This development is a multifunctional stadium project designed to international standards.
"As a building with a new function in the area, the GBK IMS Building is expected to become a new public space to fulfill functional needs and at the same time enjoy the existence of a historic and high-value area without compromising respect for its surroundings," explained Iwan.
