Not Wanting To Lose To Gerindra Party, PSI Party Will Propose Its Cadres In The 2024 Regional Head Election

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for PSI Party Central Executive Board (DPP) Rian Ernest admitted that his party will nominate its cadres to participate in the 2024 DKI Regional Head Election (Pilkada) contestation. He considers PSI cadres to have the capability as candidates for DKI Governor.

This was in response to the statement from the Gerindra Party Advisory Board Mohamad Taufik who projected a number of names to be carried in the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election.

"Towards 2024, we won't bother looking out, because PSI cadres are also qualified for the governor's position. We'll see. 2024 is still far away," Rian told reporters, Wednesday, January 5.

However, Rian is still reluctant to reveal which name they will win. "There are many candidates. Wait for the game date," he said.

In this regard, Ernest also responded to the vacancy of the governorship of DKI after Anies Baswedan's term ends in October.

It is known, in the Pilkada Law, it is stated that the acting governor of DKI 2022-2024 will be filled by middle-high leadership positions or equivalent to echelon I officials. Rian asked the government to place good officials to lead the capital until the next election.

"We, from PSI, hope that the Minister of Home Affairs will appoint a person who is transparent, runs budget politics that is effective and efficient, and upholds the value of tolerance," said Rian.

Previously reported, Deputy Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Regional Representative Council (DPRD), Mohamad Taufik, highlighted a number of suitable figures to replace Anies to lead Jakarta.

"I personally think that it is necessary to make an inventory of the figures who will lead Jakarta. I will suggest to the Regional Board (DPD) as soon as possible," said Taufik.

Taufik mentioned a number of names, including the former Mayor of South Tangerang, Airin Rachmi Diany; DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan; Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria; Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia; former Deputy Chairman of the BPK, Bahrullah Akbar; to Member of DPD RI Sylviana Murni.

"There is Mr. Deputy Governor, who has been Deputy Governor. Mr. Anies may still have a chance. There are other figures like Airin who I think have succeeded in leading South Tangerang (Tangsel). There are others, for example, Mr. Bahlil," he explained.
