BMKG Calls Weather Anomaly Triggers Upas Dew In Dieng And Banjarnegara Highlands

JATENHG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) noted that weather anomalies were the trigger for the upas dew phenomenon in the Dieng plateau in the Wonosobo and Banjarnegara regions, Central Java Province during the rainy season.

"The phenomenon of upas dew generally occurs during the peak of the dry season in the period from June to August," said Head of BMKG Class II Meteorological Station Ahmad Yani Semarang, Sutikno, in a press release in Semarang, Antara, Tuesday, January 4.

He explained that the air mass during the rainy season is generally humid and wet, and is influenced by the Asian Monsymmetry which is quite large.

Based on data from the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) installed in the Arjuna Temple area in Dieng, he said, the weather conditions around the highlands since the beginning of 2022 have been dominated by sunny cloudy conditions with maximum heating.

"Low rainfall with a significant difference in air humidity between day and night," he said.

He explained that areas with good vegetation and low plant cover have a great potential for upstream dew to occur. Meanwhile, sunny cloudy weather dominates a number of areas in Central Java, including the Dieng plateau.

The dynamics of the atmosphere around the Dieng Plateau in the period 1 to 4 January 2022 supports the occurrence of upas dew because it is almost similar to the dry season.

"With the dynamics of the atmosphere like this, the potential for fog that can increase to dew upholstery is very large," he said.
