Chery and Jaguar Land Rover Collaboration Produces Freelander 8, Find Out More About Its Specifications

JAKARTA - The new energy vehicle (NEV) brand Freelander, which was born from the collaboration of Chery and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), introduced the official appearance of the Freelander 8 First Edition on June 15, 2026. This premium SUV with an off-road character is scheduled to launch into the market in the second half of this year.

Launching from Carnewschina, Tuesday, June 16, the First Edition Freelander comes with an exclusive matte Flowing Silver color combined with a nano-ceramic coating. The design still maintains the character previously shown through the design language of Concept 97.

In terms of dimensions, this SUV has a length of 5,118 mm or 5,185 mm, a width of 2,050 mm, a height of 1,898 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. The cabin carries a six-passenger configuration with a 2+2+2 seat arrangement. In addition, the vehicle also supports the installation of a tow hook with a load-pulling capacity of up to 2,000 kilograms.

For technology matters, the Freelander 8 is equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip. Compared to the previous generation, the Snapdragon 8295, its performance is claimed to have significantly improved with three times higher CPU capabilities, three times stronger GPUs, and an increase in NPU performance up to 12 times.

As a standard feature, this SUV also carries the Huawei ADS Qiankun driving assistance system as well as an 896-line LiDAR sensor. In the powertrain sector, the Freelander 8 uses an extended-range hybrid system combined with a Chery SQRH4J15 1.5T engine.

The engine is capable of generating 115 kW or the equivalent of 154 hp. The car uses a 60,331 kWh battery developed jointly with CATL and allows a pure electric range of up to 221 kilometers.

Off-road capability is also the focus of its development. The Freelander 8 is equipped with the i-ATS smart all-terrain system, mechanical differential lock on the front wheels, e-LSD on the rear, and dual-chamber air suspension closed-loop.

This model is the first product of the "Joint Venture 3.0" strategy implemented by the company. In the next five years, the brand is targeting the launch of six new models for the Chinese, Middle Eastern, and European markets. With a price tag of around 300,000 yuan, the Freelander 8 will face off directly with a number of rivals such as Li Auto L8 and Aito M7.
