Epilepsy Relapses, Fisherman Dies Drowning In Banyuwangi Waters

BANYUWANGI - A fisherman was found drowned in the waters of Bimorejo Village, Wongsorejo District, Banyuwangi, East Java. The man with the initials S (46) is suspected of drowning due to a relapse of his epilepsy.

The head of the Banyuwangi Polresta Polairud Police Commissioner Jeni Al Jauza confirmed the information about the drowning fisherman.

Kompol Jeni said the victim from Alasrejo Village, Wongsorejo, went to sea with his brother, Suwito (53) on Sunday, January 2 afternoon. Both departed using a fiber jukung with a 25 PK engine.

"On Monday, January 3 at around 03.00 WIB, the victim's sister who was sleeping was woken up by one of the fishermen who happened to be passing by," said Kompol Jeni, Monday, January 3.

After waking up, the victim's brother was surprised because his younger brother with the initials S was no longer on the ship. He was looking for his sister's whereabouts.

"At 09.00 WIB the victim was found. At that time, the victim's socks were caught on a fishing hook. When he was found his condition was dead, he was found at a depth of 70 meters below sea level," he said.

The victim was then evacuated and taken to the health center. The family also reported the incident to the authorities. The family refused to do an autopsy and asked for the body to be buried immediately.

"Results from the statement of the family, the victim has a history of epilepsy," said Commissioner Jeni.
