BANGKA - A joint team from the West Bangka Police, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, arrested 10 people suspected of illegally mining tin ore in two different locations.

"We arrested 10 perpetrators in the waters of Mentok and Pasirkuning Beach, Tempilang, for allegedly carrying out mining without a permit," said Head of the West Bangka Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Robby Setiadi in Mentok, Antara, Saturday, January 1.

The 10 people who are currently being held in the detention room of the West Bangka Police Headquarters have the initials SI, AT, SN, YO, AR, AF, RT, MA, YR and AT. In addition to arresting 10 people, the joint team also confiscated 12 fishing boats used for mining.

"The boats were modified with suction machines and storage devices to make it easier for the perpetrators to carry out tin ore mining activities in water locations," he said.

The arrests of the perpetrators were based on public information regarding the existence of illegal mining in the two waters and immediately followed up by a joint team.

"We caught 11 fishing boats in Mentok waters and secured them in Limbung waters, Mentok, while one unit in Pasirkuning Tempilang waters," he said.

Until now, the perpetrators are still being held at the West Bangka Police Headquarters for further investigation.
