KUPANG - Floods and landslides caused some parts of roads and bridges on Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to be impassable for motorized vehicles because they were inundated or buried by landslides.
West Sumba Police Chief, AKBP FX Irwan Arianto, said the Lendiwacu Bridge in Praikaroku Village and the Langgaliru Bridge in Padratana Village, Umbu Ratungay District, Central Sumba Regency, were inundated due to flooding.
"The flooding was very heavy. The water overflowed to the top of the bridge, so it is recommended that vehicles not cross", he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 28.
In addition, according to him, there are several parts of the road that are buried by landslides so that vehicles cannot be passed in West Sumba and Central Sumba.
"Roads are still being cleaned, hopefully, there will be no more new landslides on a number of these national roads", he said without elaborating on the parts of the road that were covered by landslides.
