379 Villages In Garut Declaration To Stop Open Defecation

GARUT - A total of 379 villages in Garut Regency, West Java have declared a stop open defecation (BAB) open defecation free (ODF) and is targeted to be 100 percent complete by January 2022.

"This is our ODF, next year we have 100 percent ODF, now there are only 50 left," said Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan while leading the ODF declaration or Stop Babs (open defecation) in 76 villages and sub-districts in the Garut Regency Regional Secretariat field, quoted by Antara. , Tuesday, December 28.

Rudy said that during 2021 a number of villages and sub-districts had declared their area ODF as evidence of maintaining environmental cleanliness and public health.

At the end of the year, he said, there were 76 villages and sub-districts that had declared ODF, meaning that in total 85 percent of the 421 villages and 21 kelurahan were spread in Garut.

"Now, thank God, we are all ODF and Garut Regency can take part in the Wistara (health award), we will go up again in the future," he said.

Rudy emphasized that the Garut Regency Government is ready to provide assistance in the form of procurement of goods to make ODF a success in every village and sub-district through the Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) program.

The Regent hopes that all goods for the STBM program are of the best quality, starting from paralon and other goods procurement so that they have a long life.

"We ask for first-class quality," he said.

Rudy hopes that all people in Garut Regency can have their own latrines in their homes, and in the future will repair toilets belonging to the poor through the "One Home One Toilet" program.

"We want 10 thousand extreme (poor) households that we have to repair," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Sukajaya Village, Malangbong District, Idis stated that his village was one of the villages that had declared the 2021 ODF by eliminating open defecation places, then making a septic tank for the general public.

"Hopefully by the end of the year or early 2022, the village will be able to prepare several septic tanks for the community," he said.
