MALANG - Malang City Resort Police (Polresta) destroyed thousands of bottles of liquor to maintain security conditions in the Malang City area, East Java, ahead of the New Year.

Deputy Kapolresta Malang City AKBP Deny Heryanto said the destruction was also carried out on other evidence such as narcotics and dangerous drugs.

"We remind the public not to fall into drug abuse. Of course this is very detrimental, especially for the younger generation," said Deny, Monday, December 27.

Deny explained that a number of evidences that were destroyed by the Malang City Police were the result of prosecution and disclosure of cases during 2021. The destruction was in accordance with the orders of the Directorate of Drug Research at the East Java Police.

The evidence destroyed included 1,500 bottles of liquor, 13,110 grams of marijuana, 2,253.83 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 2,510,508 double L pills, 163 ecstasy pills, 20.51 grams of gorilla tobacco and five cannabis plants.

"(For drug cases) this year there were 254 cases, or a decrease compared to the previous year as many as 273 cases. This year the number of suspects was 288 people," he said.

According to him, out of a total of 288 drug offenders, they have various backgrounds, ranging from students to unemployment. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, criminals are free to sell drugs.

Deny hopes that with the activities of destroying alcohol and drugs, the community can take lessons and not fall into drug abuse. As for the users, so as not to repeat their actions.

Meanwhile, in an effort to anticipate an increase in alcohol consumption and drug use ahead of the New Year celebrations, the Malang City Police held the Semeru Candle Operation 2021.

In addition, the public is also expected to be able to participate and be active in reporting to officers if they find out that there is a party of liquor and drugs. The police will immediately arrest the perpetrators.

"It is hoped that the community will actively participate in reporting to the nearest Polsek if it is known that there is an alcohol or drug party. So, the police can immediately act and secure the perpetrators," he said.

In securing the Christmas and New Year 2022 celebrations in the Malang City area, the Malang City Police deployed approximately 350 personnel. However, overall, the combined personnel deployed reached 600 people.

In addition, the Malang City Police have prepared service and security posts, namely the Integrated Post for the Madyopuro toll exit, the Ijen Church Service Post, the Albertus Church Security Post and the Soekarno Hatta area of Brawijaya University and the Kayutangan Church.
