RIAU - The Riau KSDA Center Rescue Team evacuated the gibbon gibbon (Hylobates agilis) in Sungai Keranji Village, Kuantan Singingi which was handed over by a resident in the village.

"The team headed to the village after receiving a report from Desri Aria who wanted to hand over the endangered primate," said the Head of the Riau KSDA Center, Hartono, in Pekanbaru, Antara, Monday, December 27.

He said that the gibbon gibbon was found by Desri when he was tapping rubber in his garden. Just then a sound was heard falling from the tree. Then when approached, a pair of baby gibbon gibbons were found.

The animal, he said, was then brought home by Desri to be treated at his home. However, three weeks later, one of the baby uwo ungko male sex died.

However, the female uwo ungko was still alive until it was handed over to the Riau BBKSDA because she knew the animal was protected. It is estimated that Desri has kept the animal since 14 years ago.

"Recently, Mr. Desri just found out that the animal is one of the protected animals, so he took the initiative to hand it over to the Riau KSDA Center," he said.

Hartono said the animal was in good health and no defects or injuries were found on its body. Even its aggressive and agile.

"Then the animals were transferred to the animal transit enclosure of the Riau KSDA Center in Pekanbaru for observation before taking further action," he said.
