Bobby Nasution Hopes 'Central Hand' To Quickly Execute Medan Flood Management Program

MEDAN - The Medan City Government, North Sumatra, supports the flood control program implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) in the area in 2022.

"Flooding is one of the problems that still plague the city of Medan. We hope that it will be executed in the field as soon as possible," said Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution in Medan, quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 23.

Bobby Nasution said that through the last meeting attended by all stakeholders, it is hoped that they will be able to provide solutions to flood problems, including tidal flooding in the North Medan area.

Medan City Government supports the implementation of flood management in this area which is carried out in collaboration, both the central government and relevant stakeholders in the area.

"We fully 'support', such as providing land and outreach to the community. We are working as much as possible to fulfill the requirements of the results of this flood management study so that it can be carried out as soon as possible," said Bobby Nasution.

Meanwhile, Director of Rivers and Beaches, Director General of Water Resources, Ministry of PUPR, Bob Arthur Lombogia, admitted that several programs of the Ministry of PUPR that will be carried out in Medan City in 2022, including flood control of the Bedera River and Deli River, handling rob in North Medan and repairing the gates of Deli River Dam.

In addition, he said, the handling of flooding from the Sei Sikambing River to the Deli River is 1.2 kilometers long.

"The design has been completed, and the Minister has approved the work," said Bob Arthur.

According to him, this flood came from overflowing rivers, poorly managed drainage, and high tides, and at the same time the impact would be very broad.

"We hope that in one or two days, a technical meeting can be held so that flood management can be carried out as soon as possible," said Bob Arthur.
