Cyclonic Circulation Causes Extreme Weather In The Bali Strait

DENPASAR - Video showing high waves in the waters of the Bali Strait was shared on social media. This condition occurs due to an increase in wind speed.

Coordinator for Data and Information at the Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region III Denpasar, Bali, Dwi Hartanto explained that the unfriendly weather was due to strong winds. This condition was recorded by the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) in Ketapang, Banyuwangi, East Java.

"Strong winds were recorded from AWS Ketapang and Banyuwangi realtime data. Yes, because of the wind factor as well," said Dwi, when confirmed, Tuesday, December 21.

This condition is also the impact of extreme weather and increased wind speed in East Java. Meanwhile, from the analysis, the wind speed is caused by the cyclonic circulation in the Central Java region.

This cyclonic circulation is caused by the center of the low-pressure atmosphere in the Java Sea, north of Central Java, so that it draws air in the area around East Java. Like the spinning top that goes into or towards its axis, in this case the center is in the Java Sea and this causes an increase in wind in the East Java region.

However, it should be noted that this cyclonic flow is still in the category of low-pressure atmospheric center even in contrast to tropical cyclones which have very low pressure centers with more severe impacts.

The public is advised to be alert to the potential for increased winds and an increase in the potential for moderate, heavy rain accompanied by lightning in East Java in the next two or three days.

"Yes, it is the same (for the Bali Strait), due to the existence of a low-pressure atmosphere center in the Java Sea north of Central Java," said Dwi.
