MEDAN - North Sumatra Gerindra Party cadres asked Prabowo Subianto to run as a presidential candidate (candidate) in 2024.
The request was submitted formally at the North Sumatra Gerindra Party Coordination Meeting on Tuesday, December 21, in Medan.
The secretary general (Sekjen) of the Party DPP, Ahmad Muzani, said cadres in North Sumatra firmly asked Prabowo Subianto to run in the 2024 presidential election.
"I think everyone already knows, quite clearly, firmly, the request for hope from the Gerindra Party throughout North Sumatra representing the village, sub-district, district, province whose name is Prabowo Subianto," said Muzani.
Regarding a number of scholars who supported Sandiaga Uno to run for office, Muzani was reluctant to respond. He said the attitude of Gerindra cadres in North Sumatra had not changed to ask Prabowo to become a presidential candidate.
"His name has not changed, his name has not changed, single, his name is Prabowo Subianto, there is no other name. This is what we continue to strive for so that Pak Prabowo can advance," he said.
To smooth Prabowo's steps to become a presidential candidate, the Gerindra Party must form a coalition. He also refused to comment on other names that were predicted to run for office.
"We have 78 seats, we are still lacking, of course we have to form a coalition. With respect to other candidates, I have no comments, please support anyone. But the party is only concentrating, the party is only focused on one name, Prabowo Subianto," said Muzani.
Muzani is also reluctant to think about the disappointment of Prabowo supporters in North Sumatra after deciding to join the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin cabinet. He believes that by looking at Prabowo's performance in the government, which he considers the maximum, he will be able to withdraw this support.
"All surveys say the performance is the best, this is a potential presidential candidate. This week there are 3 different surveys that place Prabowo as the most popular, with the highest electability. The public needs time to convince, for that we feel that all Prabowo supporters will return to 08," he explained.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the North Sumatran Gerindra Party DPD, Gus Irawan Pasaribu, explained that the cadre's request for Prabowo to step up was nothing new.
"For Prabowo to go forward, our cadres have voiced halal bi halal, last May, this was only formal. This is a voice in the community where friends are in the branches, villages, sub-districts, city districts, we will repeat this again," he explained.
