5 Pregnant Women Give Birth At The Mount Semeru Refugee Post

LUMAJANG - Five pregnant women reportedly gave birth at the evacuation post for the hot cloud disaster from Mount Semeru, Lumajang Regency, East Java.

Deputy Regent of Lumajang, Indah Amperawati, said almost all pregnant women who gave birth were forced to undergo a cesarean section because they had not reached the expected day of the baby's birth.

"Almost all cesarean sections may be due to stress, fear or even trauma due to the eruption of Mount Semeru", she said, quoted by Antara in a written statement, Monday, December 20.

Indah said that one of the babies was born on the third day when the mother was in the evacuation post, even though according to the doctor's calculations it should not be time for the mother to give birth and maybe because of trauma or fear during the Semeru eruption, so she gave birth at the Pasirian General Hospital (RSU) via C-section.

"Hopefully Ananda Ahmad Chaidar will be a pious child and hopefully his mother's struggle to save him will be a reminder for him to continue to be filial and love his parents", she said.

According to Indah, there are still 14 prospective mothers who are expected to give birth at the Mount Semeru disaster evacuation post soon, so that her party has asked the Lumajang District Health Office to prepare a comfortable place for mothers and babies after the delivery process.

"I ask that health workers also help relieve trauma to mothers who give birth, then monitor the condition of mothers and babies after giving birth", she said.

Indah also asked medical personnel and midwives to continuously monitor the refugees who gave birth, so that they can keep the traumatized mother from disappearing so that her breast milk (ASI) runs smoothly for the baby.

The Deputy Regent, who is familiarly called Bunda Indah, visited the Maternity Waiting House in Pasirian Village, Lumajang Regency on Sunday, December 19.
