SEMARANG - Professor of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Semarang, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur DEA Nur, created a tool that serves to reduce pesticides on vegetables and fruit using ozone microbubbles.

According to Nur, the device called the Nano & Micro Ozone Bubble Generator (GenGONaM) functions to wash fruits and vegetables that will be consumed using ozone microbubbles.

He explained that GenGONaM uses an ozone generator to produce micro and nanobubbles.

"Ozone in the form of micro and nanobubbles is more soluble in water. Ozone-dissolved water is used to wash horticultural products that are exposed to pesticides," he said, quoted by Antara, Sunday, December 19.

As for the washing process, he continued, using a rotating container in which the water used for washing can come out directly and not hit the product again.

He said the development of this tool started from concern over the number of stunting cases, one of which was triggered by the consumption of fruits and vegetables that were not clean from pesticides.

"Consumption of fruits and vegetables that contain pesticides has an impact on the body and intelligence," continued Nur.

Nur explained that the tool, which is one of the selected innovations in the National Research Priority Program (PRN) of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), is able to remove up to 95 percent of pesticide content in 10 minutes.
