Dozens Of Houses In Central Lombok Were Heavily Damaged Due To Being Swept Away By A Tornado, Two Residents Were Injured

PRAYA - Heavy rains accompanied by hurricanes hit the Central Lombok region, West Nusa Tenggara, causing damage to dozens of residents' houses in Change Village, East Praya Sub-district on Saturday, December 18, at 9 p.m. WITA.

"Residents' houses suffered heavy and light damage after being swept away by a tornado last night," said the head of the Central Lombok Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ridwan Makruf in Praya, Sunday, December 19.

In addition to destroying residents' houses, the natural disaster resulted in two residents being injured due to being hit by the rubble of their house.

"The injured residents have been treated at the local health center," he said.

From the temporary data, the number of houses that were heavily damaged were 5 houses and around a dozen houses were lightly damaged.

"This is temporary data, material losses are still being recorded," he said.

After the incident, his party, who received information, immediately went down to check on the condition of the residents and provided logistical assistance to the affected residents. Meanwhile, for other needs, they are still waiting for the results of the data collection that has been done.

"The team will come back down to check what are the basic needs of the community," he said.

"For the time being, residents are still taking refuge in their families' homes, because their houses are still damaged," he said. With this incident, his party appealed to the public to remain alert to the impact of high rainfall accompanied by strong winds that could cause floods and landslides.

"We urge the public to remain vigilant about the impact of the extreme weather that will occur at the end of December 2021," he said.

A month ago, a tornado also damaged dozens of houses in Bangkat Parak Village and Kidang Village, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. This was reported by Antara.
