JAKARTA - A member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) Anas Thahir asked the public not to panic in response to the first confirmed case of COVID-19, the Omicron variant, in the Republic of Indonesia.

"This situation certainly makes us all very concerned. But people don't need to panic, all parties must still be able to think clearly and act wisely in the face of the entry of this new variant of COVID by continuing to increase the discipline of carrying out health procedures to the fullest," said Anas, Friday, December 17.

In connection with the year-end holiday, the PPP Party politician urged the government to tighten supervision on state border routes, both land, sea, and air.

"The government must also increase vigilance by tightening supervision in all border areas of the country, both sea, land, and air," said Anas.

According to him, the COVID-19 screening process needs to be carried out seriously, considering that the first patient was infected without a history of foreign travel.

 

"The COVID-19 screening work system at every gate of the transportation route must also be carried out seriously without distinguishing whether they are ordinary people, officials, or conglomerates. Everyone must obey the rules," Anas continued.

 

Anas also suggested that the government immediately consider and prepare booster vaccines for the community to maintain the level of immunity so as to reduce the risk of transmission.

 

"One more thing that needs attention, it is time for the government to consider more progressive steps. For example, by promoting booster vaccines to reduce the risk of faster transmission, as well as coating immunity and resistance of the community in dealing with the new variant of the COVID attack," he said.
