"It is important for refugees to be calm and not panic, starting tomorrow (the housing) work can be done," he said.

Khofifah said the concept of a "smart village" that combines settlements with places of economic activity is planned to be applied in housing development for residents who are facing the impact of increased activity on Mount Semeru.

"This is in accordance with a request from the Lumajang Regent regarding the plan to relocate the Mount Semeru refugee house," he said.

According to data from the Lumajang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency as of Wednesday, December 15, the hot clouds from Mount Semeru had caused 48 deaths, 18 people were seriously injured, and nine people were slightly injured.

The disaster also forced 10,158 people to evacuate in 151 places in Lumajang Regency.
