JAKARTA - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) noted that there had been tens of thousands of cases of violence against children and women during the period from January 1 to December 9, 2021.

In detail, the Deputy for Protection of Women's Rights at the Ministry of PPPA, Ratna Susianawati, explained that as many as 7,639 cases of violence against women and 10,832 cases of violence against children.

"A total of 73.7 percent of cases of violence against women are cases of domestic violence. Meanwhile, cases of violence against children are dominated by cases of sexual violence, which is 59.7 percent," Ratna said in an official statement, quoted on Sunday, December 12.

When looking at the general trend, Ratna views cases of violence as an iceberg phenomenon. In a sense, this problem can happen anytime, anywhere, and happen to anyone.

"When there are high recorded cases of violence, on the other hand, it indicates the courage to report, it is also an important note for us. When victims dare to report, cases of violence will be revealed," she said.

Furthermore, the PPPA Ministry has followed up on 107 cases of violence against women that entered from March to November 2021.

Meanwhile, there are 507 cases of violence against children that have been handled based on complaints submitted in January-December 2021.

This case was previously reported through SAPA 129, the Ministry of PPPA's service regarding reporting and assistance to women and children who are victims of violence.

"The 107 cases have been clarified to obtain objective truth based on coordination with the supporting services at the provincial and district/city levels," she explained.
